but to be dominated is staggering.

MMA's always going to have a higher level of variance because of how many moving parts there are. You slip (like GSP did against Matt Serra), you get beat. You get caught on a takedown, you could easily get submitted.

Boxing is more limited in the idea of the best fighter has fewer things to defend against as his opponent tries to take advantage of weaknesses.
