My opinion is that your opinion, as a gun owner, is similar to others that own guns.

You own guns, and you want and defend that freedom, but you're not the "problem." And I'm not saying you specifically are.
Therefore, nothing gets done at an overall level regarding the loopholes in the gun laws because you see it an attack on your rights. Not that you can change the law, but that seems to be the consensus of gun owners, and therefore nothing gets done at a national level.
Add lobbyist money and politics in that opposition, and NOTHING gets done.
Throw in a someone who vehemently believes in something- and is willing to kill for it - and you've given then the means to disrupt lives and security of a free society.
As defeatist as it is, if a bunch of dead elementary school children isn't enough to spark change, I honestly can't think of anything that will.
