I mentioned a while back that a writer I follow said she was working on a big piece on selfies. I thought it would be for one of the big pubs she's

written for; but no, it's on "matter" on medium*:

(not linking because I don't know if it's trackable, and I really have no desire to bring her here. I generally like her elsewhere, and I don't need the possible drama.)

I'm sure there's value in it, although I disagreed with her twitter comments reading oh-so-many things into poking fun at the girls in the baseball game crowd over-selfie-ing at the time; but, man, I am having a hard time getting past parts of it near the start where she says this:

"Whenever I think about selfies, I think about the women who came before. I think about the ones who never got to use front-facing cameras, that technological ease and excess that we have so quickly taken for granted."

no, no she does not; or at least she didn't before writing this. no way, you know?

*aside: I don't know if it's the format or what, but there seems to be a greater than general amount of writing I don't care for - even from people I've liked elsewhere and/or it's up under the headers of other publications - on medium - self-indulgent, over-long, strettttching, navel-gazing, eh, just.. eh. ;p
