Scorpion, the show that airs after Supergirl, had these ratings over the past four weeks:
9.51 million
9.34 million
9.16 million
8.95 million
Supergirl, the show airing before it, should do better. That's the entire point of network programming. Earlier shows build audiences so that later ones do well. The idea is to keep people awake long enough to reach 10 PM programming, which isn't easy for the CBS viewing audience.
Supergirl's ratings are:
8.87
8.07
7.77
7.19
See how big a disparity there is between the stronger timeslot show and the later one? That's...disastrous.
In addition, see how the 8 PM show has lost 1.68 million viewers in a month, which is almost 20%? That's what people call a sign. Compare it to the 9 PM show, which is down only 6%.
And the Birds of Prey reference I made that went over your head is dead solid perfect for Supergirl. I didn't use it to skew the numbers, but the Kryptonian's show started at 12.96 million before shedding 45% of its audience in five episodes. Birds of Prey started with the best demographic performance in the history of The WB to that point. After six weeks, it only lost 35% of its audience yet people knew it was in danger of cancellation.
