I haven't seen Gravity outside of the ads. I would say that I feel like I've seen Mad Max visually before with Snyder and Miller.

I had not seen a Gravity.

I also would not say Director = Picture and Picture = Story...Picture is the combination of all components (story, style, performances, music)...I would say that Max only has 1 of those in noteworthiness. The story is thin (not bad, but thin), the performances were there (no one was asked to stretch imo) and music rarely is noteworthy to me as a general aspect so unless it's either great or awful, I don't notice.

For me, at best, it's a well-done action movie with an interesting style. I can't give that 2nd most important award status.
