"Quality is irrelevant" isn't in question. But I disagree that "hype" is what's important here. Enthusiasm is a slightly different beast and

I think that while the hype may be pegged at 100%, enthusiasm is higher for this movie than the prequels precisely because it looks to tick the boxes the prequels missed.

And enthusiasm is what will sell the tickets. And it's enthusiasm that will plummet if the wom is bad. Especially in light of the prequels.

The Force Awakens is getting the benefit of the doubt, but will lose it much, much faster than the prequels if it disappoints.
