I think a pre-sale record break is noteworthy, perhaps even to the masses but 2 things...

pre-sale records are nice but it's the League Championship to the Superbowl of movies to the public. Especially if it doesn't take OW.
And
It has a few circumstances baked in that make any record breaking have an asterisk. The near 24hr running of it, the Thursday showing (although I'm out of it at this point to know if that's unusual - I think it is but could be wrong), etc.
The other thing is - global totals are good benchmarks at this point. Domestic take doesn't mean what it meant previously. If they trumpet the global opening instead of the domestic one, I get why it would seem like a dodge but it has some validity.
