in 3d for a first run, it wasn't shot for it; so it's a conversion. JJ hasn't been a big fan of 3D, but he says some parts of tfa were better with it - eh.

re: imax, this says that only one scene was shot specifically for it; so the reason to see it that way is the experience.

I think I'll just try to see it before the whole entire world wants to spoil me. maybe tuesday, if I'm able to take it off, as I'm hoping.
