I think that it is straight up purposefully done that way. But that basic framework contains so much new stuff.

Sure we had a call back to:
-The Death Star
-Luke's saving the day by destroying the Death Star.
-The Cantina scene
-Han running in corridors shooting at stormtroopers.

But it all served the story. It's a strong echo, but I think the echo serves a purpose of setting the table for what to expect. In IV-Vi it was a Son versus a Father. In VII-IX it'll be brother versus sister.

Echoes. That's deliberate and I love it. It makes 4-9 a single piece.
