Strange office day. We have a secretary here who is retiring today. She has been with the firm almost since the firm's inception (nearly 40 years).

She is leaving without any acknowledgment of this. Not because the firm didn't want to do it, but because she absolutely insisted she wouldn't have it. She is without question the most private person I've ever known. She's been here nearly 40 years and she doesn't exchange a "hello" with almost anyone. The only time we say as much as hello is if we happen to get into an elevator at the same time and we're the only 2 people in the elevator so it's impossible not to acknowledge each other. It seems amazing to me that someone could be at a place for 40 years and barely develop any relationships, but it's definitely by choice. She is married so she's not completely anti-social. I just find it all so weird.
