I am open to your theory because it might be
what the writers want to go with. Luke went into exhile and he could have faltered when he lost his student to the dark side.

I am also open to her just being force sensitive on her own. In the god awful prequels you had lot's of jedi from many different families.

You may be correct when it all hashes out.
