even with a budget as large as SW, I'd imagine it comes down to something like that.

maybe or maybe not. I'm always critical of Sci-Fi because it's so human specific (I hated ST:NG because apparently the only thing that differentiated species in the galaxy was skin color, language and something funky on their forehead or bridge of their nose). However, it could just be a style choice. Those long shots of storm troopers would look odd with a non-human trooper. It would, however, be something to see a company of some other species together. Maybe some wookie traitors.
