I guess you have to buy that he isn't really Jedi. Since his ultimate goal is to destroy Snoke and the Jedi only use the force for defense and not attack. If you buy that he is an outsider that isn't really either dark side or light side and is going rogue, then it is actually a pretty cool twist.
