I thought there was an exchange (or more than one) between him and Taub earlier in the season on the subject of suicide that could have been foreshadowing. Most of the focus on that was on Taub at the time. I'd like to go back and watch it, but I forget the episode.
As for the actor, he seems alright with it.
And just because the audience has more info doesn't mean they have, or should have, all the info.
