OTT and I watched that interview the other night. multiple times, he got in the way of his own messages re: things like that.

he's so into his own head and.. superiority sorta, although that's not quite it because that implies he doesn't respect others in general as much as I think he does, that he just didn't express things the best way, even about things about which a lot of people would agree.
some of it, as Spawn says, is because of how he feels about the franchise; but many other directors and creators feel similarly about their projects without coming across the way he does.
