Spoiler

There is so much tragedy in this that I don't know who I feel bad for most. Brendan is a simple kid at the time that doesn't know what is going on around him. He's just trying to tell people what they want to hear so he can go home and watch wrestling. I feel for him so much. His mom is not a well educated woman and has no idea what to do for her son. He thinks she can help him but she's as lost as he his. Neither of them are intelligent enough to get him through this. She believes every word that comes out of his mouth like it's gospel. Whenever he changes his story she believes it. She loves him so much but is not prepared or ready to handle this situation. Being poor makes it so much tougher since they're stuck with terrible public attorneys.
Avery's parents are two of the most loving parents I've ever seen on film or real life. Their unending support and love for Steven is remarkable and yet so very heart breaking.
