on resort (at least when we were there) get access to the Parks 1/2 hour earlier on some days and can stay 1/2 later on others

if we go back we will be staying off-site for the exact reason you mentioned, cost is much less. We stayed off site when we went to Universal and had no problems at all with traffic or parking any of the 3 days we went. Disney may be a different kettle of fish though. I'd check past Park volume for the days/week you are looking at and that should give you an idea of traffic
