I read your comments on Joy again after the fact, and I think we're actually fairly close on it. Bradley Cooper is part of a better movie. It's the family aspect where the film fails. If I'm disliking De Niro and Rossellini, something's gone horribly awry. What bothers me about it seems to be the same for you, only it's not as big a deal. I thought Russell failed everybody by trying too hard to be eccentric rather than telling an interesting story well. In fact, we watched The Big Short the same day, and I thought that worked out perfect since McKay did the same stuff so much more organically.
