One day for the Mall.
Go through your Rep/Senator to get Congressional and WH tours (Day 2). Squeeze in a museum if you can time it.
Hit other museums of interest for Day 3.

We actually had 4 days and did the Air and Space museum out by Dulles, which was amazing but unless you have someone that is a air/space geek can be skipped for other things.
