If you have a car you should drive the George Washington Memorial Parkway up from around the airport to Georgetown. It's a beautiful view of the river and monuments. Stop off at Gravelly Point for a view of the planes landing over the water (you can see the monuments but you're a little South of them and at water level you don't have much elevation to see far)
