If you want to give me your grandparent info I can usually pretty quickly trace them back to immigration point through Ancestry

DAR is focused on descendants of Patriots but given related families they have a lot of published family histories.
For DC locals I would suggest the DC Historical Society. I've used the DC government vital records office before but since everyone's so damned concerned about privacy it's difficult to squeeze info out of them.
