You can fly LAX - Honolulu - Guam - (Australia). Breaks the trip in (very rough) thirds -- (edited)

LAX-HNL 2557 miles
HNL-GUM - 3801 miles
GUM-SYD - 3289 miles (if going to SYD)

all three routes are flown non-stop by at least one airline

Or swap Guam for Tahiti (but you would then need to connect via Auckland to Australia)
LAX-HNL 2557
HNL-PPT - 2731
PPT-AUK - 2544, then a hope from AKL to Australia.

All of those routes exist on at least one airline.
