it's kind of crazy that way...

I think it's the crowd source nature of ST and that we're all plugged into different sources. When the attacks in Paris were happening ST usually had it first (not true technically as STers are getting it from somewhere but we'd hear about a detail and whatever source we were plugged into would get it later).
