I'd be interested to see some demographic breakdowns but my sense of this is that it's institutional.

it goes to the ethos of some in this country. It's a large part of how they identify with the country.
I think the needle finally moved ever so slightly. The NRA put out a hilarious rebuttal to the mood swing but blaming politicians for not enacting certain things like sending state and local data about criminals and terrorists to the feds. I kept waiting for the pause and then for him to say, "because we bankrolled anyone who would stop it and crushed anyone who supported it" That smug sack of excrement managed not to burst into flames.
