They want someone to walk into a shop or show and submit to a background check, a mental health check, a waiting period, etc.... all that is fine.

None of this has any impact on the dudes getting the guns from some dude out of his trunk. There are no stricter penalties for the guy selling illegal weapons. They are picking up kids carring 9mm handguns and just confiscating the guns, and releasing the kids to the parents with a fine. That is no deterrant IMO
