so i'm done in London. let's say in london i'm paid X. i have an opportunity to make 24% higher BUT it involves a move to San Francisco or Sunnyvale (ew), massively more expensive. i miiiight get a promotion and more money (about 10% more), but so far i've been screwed on that front, so i'm not banking on anything. if i do san fran i also get relocation, so two months of housing free plus a little cash. Sunnvale, although i've never been there specifically, looks soul crushing.
or... i can take a job in Portland (OR) that makes me 20% more, but has a smaller bonus, but is a move towards being a consultant.
i'd consider san fran if i wouldn't go broke living there, but as it stands, i'd be spending half my salary on rent alone.
thoughts? time to part ways with this gig and move on to somewhere more affordable?

if being a consultant is what you want to do, Portland. sunnyvale isn't bad, though.

if i were in London i'd never leave. between those two choices, i'd go for SF (proximity to b. notwithstanding) -- nm

Is your job done in London, or you're just *done* with London.

The higher pay in SF is directly correlated to the higher cost of living. So it's not really more money.

Portland has also grown very expensive, as housing is nearly as tight as the SF area; I'd do some research. All things being equal, Portland! -- nm
