mostly it's a nice, suburban-y mid-size city. costs are higher than some more distant places because of google and other tech companies.

unemployment is very low. it has a somewhat younger feel than some other surrounding places - looks like median age is mid-30's, with a lot of young families, mostly white/asian. (my mom lived there for several years in the late 80's/early 90's - it skewed somewhat older then.) it has its own little downtown with nice bars and restaurants - they completely redid a lot of it in the past several years. it ranks high on safe places to live lists.
some parts of the city are filled with tech companies, and I'm sure there's a lot of biking to work.
