I rarely buy any tickets when the jackpots aren't ginormous, and it always amuses me (in a poking fun at myself way) that I'll do it when the odds are even worse against worse.

iirc, I used to take a couple of hundred dollars to las vegas to play with; but a good bit of that was a sort of spending-time-with-friends tax. like payment for having fun around a blackjack table, and craps one time. I ended up even or ahead, mostly; but I would have been ok losing that planned amount, in theory.

it feels more impactful when it's lottery ticket buying, even with shared st experience in the mix.
