I work for a Christian affilaited organization and I am not a fan of overtly promoting it....

When we target other religious affiliated organizations (notably local churches) or people it makes sense.
If you go all out and brand yourself as a religious affiliated organization and your marketing and target market reflects that, its just like targeting youth or women or other demographics. Then it can work.
However for most businesses, it can limit your possible audience and work against you. While we still have a religious affiliation, most of our marketing is us as a secular organization and open to anyone of all religious or non religious background.
