what he's saying is that other minorities aren't being considered for the big attention getting roles/gigs. they can't win if the studios don't hire -- (edited)

and, Spike Lee makes independent movies. I am sure *partially* by choice, but also, he's not on anyone's list for, say, The Martian. And, sure, that's not his genre, but those gigs only seem to EVER go to white males. (with rare exceptions)
