Can someone tell me why if I type in opentable.com into my browser it says the website can't be found, but if I google it, and click on the Open Table

That works. Why? I don't have to type in www for any other websites. -- nm*

"www" is the hostname. Some sites configure just the domain name to also be a hostname. Some sites don't, and are stupid. -- nm

Part of the problem is that standard DNS allows you to do things with hostnames like www that aren't easy to do with just the domain name.
