After watching the debate this weekend I would say he really is tapping into the base in much the same way Trump is. Of course it's not mean-spirited

racist or inherently evil in the same way, but he very focused on populist catch phrases and appeals and without a lot of meat on the proposals (other than the rich are going to pay for everything). It's not necessarily the case that he's wrong on the issues (to my taste he swings the bar back a little to far to the left), but it's completely impractical and pie in the sky. He taps into the same anger as Trump, just from the opposite side.
