Well, for me, whereas most Springsteen shows are an A+, this one was probably an A/A-. Still great, don't get me wrong, but the format of playing an
entire double album start to finish is a little self limiting. Part of his greatest strength as a performer is his spontaneity. His ability to find the right song for the moment. So here, locked into a 20 song, 2 hour set, is different. It's definitely a show more for us die-hard fans who get to hear him do some songs we've never heard before, but for my taste, the first album of the River is perfect and matches the tone and pace of one of his concerts, but the second album is too heavy on slower numbers for a live show. So the second hour drags a bit. Still great moments, but it loses some momentum. Of course for most bands they might follow that up with a 3 or 4 song encore, but Bruce played another hour and twenty minutes. An additional 12 songs (for a total set of 33 songs). And its a rockin' fun set. So overall a great show, but with a small drag that kept it from perfection.
