The guy I was talking to is a social worker who volunteered to help my mother and step-father a few months ago. The county had been wanting my mother in a nursing home because it "safer" than home, despite her having 24 hour in home care - which she can apparently afford with ease. I'm calling the case worker tomorrow. Chris (social worker) is hoping if I become guardian my mother can stay home. (The plan was to put her in the nursing home next week.) A conservator may have already been appointed to handle her affairs. My appointment as guardian would not change that. My involvement would help her stay in her home of 40 years. There are 2 bank accounts with liquid assets around 600k. There are other accounts, as well, assets unknown. My step-father did not want my involvement. The county had been trying to find me for 4 months but they had the wrong last name, not knowing my mother had been married before. Chris found my passport from when I last lived with them (18 years old) that had my name. A quick Google search found me.
Small world tidbit - Chris used to live in Covington.
