if you can dismiss the complaints by saying, "This was a great year, and he wasn't in the top 5 or 8 for SOC", the argument changes to a token nomination instead of merit.

If you had a The Reader in there over SOC and SOC was generally a top 5/6 movie instead of 9th-14th...then you have a far better case for a legitimate complaint, imo.
