I agree. The problem is that there is a lot of money on the line and it is a bottom line business. They will always take the safer route, and from a

pure financial standpoint, they're often right. I give JJ Abrams a lot of credit for casting a black actor for Finn, but he had a franchise that wasn't going to depend on who filled that role. Spiderman, as in your example, does depend on who is in the role. And they have research and historical information that is going to be a major factor in that outcome. The systemic problems are much deeper than Hollywood, and while Hollywood could help effect that change, they are a business and so it's a bit of a catch-22.
