FWIW, we ended up putting my grandfather in the memory unit of a place like what you were looking at. We were really happy with their care.

He couldn't live at home after my grandmother died and we were hesitant (as was he). He went downhill really fast mentally after she died so if there's no one locally to look after her the facility may be the best option if she is already showing signs of dementia.

It's not an easy decision by any means and I'm sorry you are thrown into this situation but if I were you I would at least visit the facility and see.
