I agree it's not easy for her, but here's my reservation with the article. -- (edited)

Much of her situation is by choice. She chose not to save, to not have a safety net (assuming here that she had the means in her life to save. I'm making an assumption based on business school and her career that maybe she could have, but perhaps I'm wrong). And then she chose in retirement to travel the country like she always wanted to, taking temp jobs to cover costs along the way. I don't begrudge her that, but what if she had stayed in one place, gotten a permanent, perhaps better paying job rather than jumping temp job to temp job and state to state? Much of what she is doing is by choice. Choices that people far worse off than her would love to be able to make.
That's not to take away from how on-the-edge her situation is
