I suspect they didn't want to pressure her and now she feels hurt.

The other two scenarios are:
1) They're negotiating through the media -- like Lauren Graham texts her friend that she's missed. After initially rejecting overtures, McCarthy suddenly decides she wants to play but can't think of a better way to sign up.
2) Sherman-Palladino, who is tougher and more vicious than anybody reading this, had a falling out with MM at some point and we're only now hearing about it.
McCarthy has been there since the pilot, and the guy who plays her husband has acted, written, and directed the show. So, this puts him in a strange situation, too.
What we also don't know is whether they're filming all the "movies' consecutively. If there's a gap, they'll have plenty of time to work something out. If the shoot's over in three weeks, this is truly unfortunate.
