So, if you are reading a book or watching a movie, and it is really bad

Do you turn it off or keep watching/reading to see how deep into hell it will go?
I sometimes wander the stacks at the library to check out new authors. Found this one, "Solar Eclipse" by John Farris. Supposedly a New York Times bestseller.
I have no clue why. Run on sentences, heck run on paragraph's, way over detailed, way under detailed.
Here's an example:
"Catching sight of Pepper(her daughter), huddled in the oversize sweatshirt at the corner table beneath a planter brimming with plastic fren and scrupulously biting her french fries in half, Shay wondered how her daughter would have coped in New Guinea."
My brain hurts just typing it. The book is full of 'em. But I am getting some great chuckles out of this dreck. Can't decide whether to keep going for the laughs or bury it deep in the library drop off slot.

It used to be that I would never ever quit a book. I'd stay with it to the bitter end.

I vaguely recall quitting a book once, but I can't remember which one. -- nm

I gave myself a gift some years ago. I was always a finisher, esp. for books, since I was a kidlet.

If the book is bad but entertaining I sort of speed read it, skip through the dreck and read the fun stuff.

I will usually find a silver lining or bright spot in any movie, but I'll often use 2x speed to find it. -- nm

I'll abandon a bad book. I'll abandon a good book if it starts out rough. But I tend to power through all but the worst movies.

Life is too short to endure bad writing and films. I will close the book or turn off a film if I'm not enjoying it. -- nm
