Downtown Knoxville is super vibrant and there is *always* something to do there.

I love the aquarium in Gatlinburg, too. I like it better than the one in Atlanta (and I've also been to a couple of others nearer the ocean as well - it's better).
We're also within easy drives of Nashville, Atlanta, Chattanooga, and Asheville, and all of them have wonderful day trip opportunities.
