I understand you're just playing, but if that's how you view the Beach Boys you're really not listening very deeply. The Beatles acknowledge them as

one of their great influences. Sgt. Peppers was directly based on the influence of Pet Sounds. The layering of music that Brian Wilson created was massively influential. There is kitschy beach stuff at the beginning, but even then the harmonies were extraordinary. But get beyond the first couple of years and the music becomes complex and the songwriting just fantastic.
