Apparently there was an advisory panel that recommend the raise as well as other changes like not allowing outside work by the members. The city

$100k to $150k in NYC isn't a ridiculous salary. If they want to keep good people and not lose them to the private sector they need to pay them well.

Right. The salaries aren't obscene at all but it's that they decide and vote on their own raise where I take issue. -- nm
