It completely amazes me that people still rent modems from the cable companies.

I do have to check my bill every month to make sure they didn't start charging the rental fee though. It happened a couple years back and I had to get them to reverse the charges.
Responses:
Charter doesn't charge for the modem but you can rent a wifi router from them.
