I actually think you're looking at this at the wrong (but ethically correct) way.

They didn't send the helicopter to hunt down a man who threatened a woman in Texas.

They did it because a state hero in their favorite sport was threatening to kill himself.

I'd very much like the future facts to prove me wrong on this, but I doubt they do.
