Kylo had just taken a bowcaster shot to the side, with minimal impact. that thing makes people fly through the air like high explosives. he took the shot and barely reacted.
And during Rey's fight, there's a scene where Kylo says something along the lines of 'you need a teacher.' Rey's reaction made me think she'd just been fighting with her hand-to-hand skills she'd developed on Jakku (like when she beat up the dudes Simon Pegg sent after her), and she'd forgotten about the whole Force thing. After that she overwhelmed him.
