I don't think so. He is tasked with governing and by all accounts is a policy guy.

He knows flat out he can't govern with the mechanisms these guys employ. You can be a stringent conservative and still have competence in setting expectations and strategy.
"Elect me and we'll repeal Obamacare." While Obama is in office? What drugs are you on? So all you've done is set the bar impossibly high and invite intra-party purity tests if you fail to accomplish the impossible goal.
