a serious, in-the-faces-of-the-relevant-posters, stop-it-you-jerks type of criticism.

there is nothing passive aggressive about what I said. I specifically made a request based on my noting what has been happening on and off for some time.

you are not alone with it - I've recently addressed con_carne for the same thing, to name a name. in the past, I would have let what really is something more passive-aggressive, a form of poking, fester, maybe to the point of having to leave st for at least a while. I'm choosing not to do that anymore, if I can help it, at least not without trying to address something wrong first.
