Likely reasons (according to my friend the auto dealer) ...
|
1. It's bait. The dealership is listing it on the low end of market to get people on the lot and then pitch them a different vehicle ... such as a brand new Durango with super-fantastic towing package and better gas mileage.
2. It's overstock. The dealership has a dozen of these sitting around and just wants to move them. Perhaps not the same make and model, but a bunch of these types of vehicles that need to move. Or they may be expecting a bunch of people trying to trade in similar vehicles soon (such as families upgrading to larger, more powerful vehicles to tow more stuff), and this one happens to be the oldest vehicle of its type on the lot.
3. They're preparing for fishing/camping/hunting season. This is the season of boat shows, fishing and camping shows, home remodel shows, and gardening shows. The dealership knows that a lot more folks are going to start looking for these types of vehicles soon, so they want to kick off sales with something cheap -- though not a loss leader.
4. It's possessed. Or the dealership thinks it's possessed. Dealerships can be very superstitious places, and if the folks working there view this as a token of bad luck for some reason, they want to get rid of it.
