In response to "yeah, he has to beat Rubio in SC after all the capital people have been investing in him -- nm" by sweet baboo

If his campaign strategists are smart, they're already laying the "low expectations" groundwork.

All the Bush campaign has to do is paint a picture of spin showing that Gov. Jeb Bush can "win" the South Carolina primary as long as he doesn't lose by as much of a margin as he has in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Iowa was essentially Sen. Cruz, Donald Trump, and Sen. Rubio in a three-way tussle for the top, then a scrum of candidates: Gov. Bush, Ben Carson, Rand Paul, Carly Fiorina, Gov. Kaisich, Gov. Huckabee, Gov. Christie, and Sen. Santorum (because as far as the public is concerned, any candidate in single digits is just like any other candidate).

New Hampshire was Trump way out front, then a four-way tussle in the middle -- Gov. Kasich, Gov. Bush, Sen. Cruz, and Sen. Rubio -- then a scrum of the rest.

As long as Gov. Bush stays in that "top five" group with double-digit results, he's fine. He can claim he is still winning by remaining in a race with so many candidates backed by a trend of consistently improving.

I could write the spin myself: "The Governor respects Senators Rubio and Cruz as accomplished and polished speakers and debaters. Unfortunately, Governor Bush has spent too much time doing actual work for the people he serves, rather than engaging in debate prep.

"The winds of change have been blowing in every direction of the compass around The Donald, but the voters are already beginning to recognize the Governor's steadfast leadership, dedication, and true grit and focus. In the end, the numbers don't matter. It's the electoral trends that do, and right now, Governor Bush is the only candidate trending in the right direction -- or really, in any consistent direction. And that direction is up!"
